hucker street, central queensland
we had the opportunity to live a tropical dream. to reside in a high-set pole house in far north queensland, we lived amongst mangroves and wet seasons in a 1910’s workers cottage. my garden was strewn with tropical plants of the most vibrant hues. we were situated close to the tropical coast, the long tidal beaches and the whitsunday islands. we explored these at every possible break in routine and sailed its oceans in a 30ft sailboat ‘Katoura’ for six years. here i worked as a retail visual merchandiser for porters, completed my university, technical and further education studies and began my teaching career. in 2013 we took a break from the heat and spent a couple of weeks in the clean crisp air of queenstown, new zealand. in queensland I grew as a learner, an artist and an educator. i am most thankful for the gift of education, because how many doors it does open. one cannot fathom? i also learnt the art of printmaking from a little group of artists, printbank mackay, a bunch of artists so willing to support, encourage and teach the art of printmaking. the lifestyle, the slower pace of living, the extraordinary friendships and experiences i made in mackay enhanced my life as it is till now.
